Abita Root Beer Baked Beans

Ingredients

  • 6 ounce Abita root beer
  • 1 pound bacon (diced)
  • 1 cup diced onions
  • ½ cup diced celery
  • ¼ cup diced green bell peppers
  • ¼ cup minced garlic
  • ¼ cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard

Instructions

  2. 2 12-ounce cans baked beans drained
  3. salt, to taste
  4. cracked black pepper, to taste
  5. granulated garlic, to taste
  6. 1.   Preheat oven to 350ºF.
  7. 2.   In a Dutch oven, cook bacon over medium heat until bacon is  crisp and fat is rendered.
  8. 3.   Remove bacon, drain on paper towels, and set aside. Add onions, celery, bell pepper, and garlic to pan drippings and sauté 3 to 5 minutes or until translucent.
  9. 5.   Bake, uncovered, for 25 minutes. Remove from oven, adjust seasoning using salt, pepper, and granulated garlic, and serve hot.
  10. If the beans are still too thin for your liking, keep baking until desired thickness.

Tips

Always preheat your oven and check for doneness a few minutes before the suggested baking time.
