A fiery Korean-inspired sauce featuring gochujang and gochugaru, balanced with sweet, savory, and tangy notes. Perfect for wings, stir-fries, or as a spicy dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Scale: 1x
  • 1/3 cup gochujang (Korean chile paste)
  • 2 tablespoons gochugaru (Korean chile powder)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons unseasoned rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons minced peeled fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine all ingredients.
  2. Whisk thoroughly until sugar is dissolved and sauce is well combined.
  3. Use immediately to coat wings or as a dipping sauce, or refrigerate in an airtight container.

Tips

Both gochujang and gochugaru can be found at Korean markets or in the international section of well-stocked grocery stores. The sauce can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to a week. For a thicker consistency, reduce the amount of water. This versatile sauce works great on grilled chicken, as a marinade for pork, or as a spicy condiment for rice bowls.
