A sweet and tangy BBQ sauce featuring apple juice or cider as the base, balanced with molasses, vinegar, and spices.

Ingredients

  • 0.25 cup Butter
  • 0.5 whole Onion, medium , minced
  • 1.5 cups Apple juice or cider
  • 1 tablespoon Dark molasses
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Tomato paste
  • 0.5 teaspoon Chili powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced onion and sauté until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the remaining ingredients (apple juice/cider, molasses, Worcestershire sauce, cider vinegar, tomato paste, chili powder, cinnamon, salt) to the saucepan.
  4. Stir well to combine.
  5. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low.
  6. Cook, uncovered, for about 30 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency, stirring frequently to prevent sticking.
  7. Serve warm.

This sauce pairs well with pork or chicken. For a smoother sauce, you can blend it carefully with an immersion blender after cooking.
