Serves 8
A copycat recipe for the legendary thin, tangy, and paprika-heavy BBQ sauce from Arthur Bryant's in Kansas City.
Ingredients
Scale:
1x
- 1/2 cup Cider vinegar
- 1/2 cup Rice vinegar
- 1/2 cup Water
- 1/2 cup Paprika
- 1/3 cup Yellow mustard
- 1/4 cup Dark brown sugar, packed
- 1/8 cup (2 tablespoons) Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons Salt
- 1 tablespoon Garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Hot sauce (e.g., Louisiana style)
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients (cider vinegar, rice vinegar, water, paprika, yellow mustard, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, garlic powder, black pepper, hot sauce) in a medium saucepan.
- Whisk together until well combined.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer gently, uncovered, for 10-15 minutes, or until the sauce reaches your desired (thin) consistency and the flavors have melded. The sauce will remain relatively thin.
- Let cool before storing.
- Store in an airtight container (like a pint jar) in the refrigerator.
Tips
This sauce is intentionally thin and relies heavily on paprika for its character. Use a good quality, fresh paprika. The flavor improves after sitting for a day.
