180 mins
Serves 6
Slow-simmered baked beans kicked up with chili sauce, molasses, strong coffee, and a shot of bourbon.
Ingredients
- 2 cans B&M Baked Beans (or similar brick oven style, approx 16 oz each)
- 1 teaspoon Dry mustard
- 1/2 cup Chili sauce
- 2 tablespoons Molasses
- 1/4 cup Strong brewed coffee
- 2 tablespoons Dark brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup Bourbon whiskey
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients (B&M baked beans, dry mustard, chili sauce, molasses, strong coffee, dark brown sugar, bourbon) in a heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven.
- Stir well to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the beans simmer for several hours (at least 2-3 hours), stirring occasionally.
- During the last hour of cooking, remove the cover to allow the sauce to reduce and thicken to your desired consistency.
- Serve hot.
Tips
The long, slow simmer allows the flavors to meld deeply. Don't rush the process. Adjust bourbon amount to your preference.
