Beans With An Attitude

180 mins Serves 6

Slow-simmered baked beans kicked up with chili sauce, molasses, strong coffee, and a shot of bourbon.

Ingredients

  • 2 cans B&M Baked Beans (or similar brick oven style, approx 16 oz each)
  • 1 teaspoon Dry mustard
  • 1/2 cup Chili sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Molasses
  • 1/4 cup Strong brewed coffee
  • 2 tablespoons Dark brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup Bourbon whiskey

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients (B&M baked beans, dry mustard, chili sauce, molasses, strong coffee, dark brown sugar, bourbon) in a heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven.
  2. Stir well to combine.
  3. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat.
  4. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the beans simmer for several hours (at least 2-3 hours), stirring occasionally.
  5. During the last hour of cooking, remove the cover to allow the sauce to reduce and thicken to your desired consistency.
  6. Serve hot.

Tips

The long, slow simmer allows the flavors to meld deeply. Don't rush the process. Adjust bourbon amount to your preference.
