Brisket Coffee Table Sauce

50 mins Serves 10

A rich and complex BBQ sauce featuring strong coffee, molasses, chili sauce, and spices. Excellent served alongside brisket.

Ingredients

Scale: 1x
  • 1 tablespoon Oil (Vegetable or Canola)
  • 2 whole Onion, medium , chopped
  • 6 whole Garlic cloves , finely minced
  • 1-2 whole Jalapeno peppers , stemmed, seeded (optional), diced
  • 1 cup Chili sauce (e.g., Heinz)
  • 0.75 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.75 cup Coffee, strong brewed
  • 0.5 cup Dark molasses
  • 0.25 cup Cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Brown mustard (e.g., spicy brown)
  • 2 tablespoons Chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 cup Water

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a medium saucepan or pot over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onions, minced garlic, and diced jalapenos. Sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add all the remaining ingredients: chili sauce, Worcestershire sauce, coffee, molasses, cider vinegar, brown mustard, chili powder, cumin, ginger, salt, and water.
  4. Stir well to combine everything.
  5. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low.
  6. Simmer the sauce, uncovered, for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it has thickened slightly and the flavors have melded.
  7. Serve warm or at room temperature, particularly good with brisket.

Tips

Adjust the number of jalapenos based on your heat preference. The coffee adds depth; use a good strong brew. The sauce will thicken slightly more as it cools.
