County Fair Fried Nachos

County Fair Fried Nachos

10 mins Serves 6

Bite-sized balls of cheesy, spicy nacho goodness, deep-fried until golden brown. A county fair classic!

Ingredients

Scale: 1x
  • 0.5 cup All-purpose flour
  • 2 whole Eggs , beaten
  • 0.5 cup Jalapeno peppers , finely chopped
  • 0.5 cup Salsa
  • 1 cup Monterrey Jack cheese, shredded
  • 2 cups Tortilla chips , finely crushed
  • 2 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • Vegetable oil (for deep frying)
  • Guacamole (optional)
  • Salsa (optional)
  • Sour cream (optional)
  • Hot sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Ensure the jalapenos are chopped as finely as possible.
  2. Ensure the tortilla chips are crushed as finely as possible (a food processor works well).
  3. In a large bowl, combine the flour, beaten eggs, finely chopped jalapenos, salsa, shredded Monterrey Jack cheese, finely crushed tortilla chips, salt, and pepper.
  4. Mix all ingredients thoroughly until well combined.
  5. Roll the mixture into small, bite-sized balls.
  6. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 400°F (200°C). Make sure there is enough oil to submerge the balls (at least 2-3 inches deep).
  7. Carefully add the nacho balls to the hot oil in small batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pot.
  8. Fry for 2-3 minutes per batch, or until they turn golden brown and float to the surface.
  9. Remove the fried nacho balls with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  10. Serve immediately with your choice of dipping sauces, such as guacamole, salsa, sour cream, or sour cream mixed with hot sauce.

Tips

Make sure the oil is at the correct temperature; if it's too cool, the nachos will absorb too much oil, and if it's too hot, they'll brown too quickly on the outside. Finely crushing the chips and chopping the jalapenos helps the balls hold together.
