  • 0.5 cup BBQ Sauce
  • 0.5 cup Cider vinegar
  • 0.5 cup Maple syrup
  • 0.25 cup Brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon Dry mustard
  • 2 cups Apples, fresh , diced ((e.g., Fuji, Gala, Honeycrisp))
  • 0.5 pound BBQ meat (leftover pulled pork/beef) or Bacon , chopped (if using meat), raw slices (if using bacon)
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) OR preheat smoker to 225°F (110°C).
  2. In a large baking dish (e.g., 9x13 inch) or a disposable foil pan, combine the canned baked beans, BBQ sauce, cider vinegar, maple syrup, brown sugar, dry mustard, diced apples, and sesame oil.
  3. If using leftover BBQ meat, stir it into the bean mixture.
  4. Stir everything together well.
  5. If using bacon, arrange the raw bacon slices evenly over the top of the bean mixture.
  6. **Cooking Methods:**
  7. **Oven:** Bake uncovered at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes, or until bubbly and the bacon (if using) is cooked through.
  8. **Smoker:** Place the pan in the smoker at 225°F (110°C) and cook for approximately 3 hours, or until the beans are thickened and have absorbed the smoky flavor.
  9. Serve hot.

Tips

Using leftover smoked pulled pork or brisket instead of bacon adds fantastic flavor. Choose firm apples that hold their shape during baking.
