Kevi's Harvest Baked Beans

Sweet and tangy baked beans with apples, maple syrup, and your choice of bacon or leftover BBQ meat.

- 2 cans (28 oz each) Baked beans, canned
- 0.5 cup BBQ Sauce
- 0.5 cup Cider vinegar
- 0.5 cup Maple syrup
- 0.25 cup Brown sugar, packed
- 1 tablespoon Dry mustard
- 2 cups Apples, fresh , diced ((e.g., Fuji, Gala, Honeycrisp))
- 0.5 pound BBQ meat (leftover pulled pork/beef) or Bacon , chopped (if using meat), raw slices (if using bacon)
- 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) OR preheat smoker to 225°F (110°C).
- In a large baking dish (e.g., 9x13 inch) or a disposable foil pan, combine the canned baked beans, BBQ sauce, cider vinegar, maple syrup, brown sugar, dry mustard, diced apples, and sesame oil.
- If using leftover BBQ meat, stir it into the bean mixture.
- Stir everything together well.
- If using bacon, arrange the raw bacon slices evenly over the top of the bean mixture.
- **Cooking Methods:**
- **Oven:** Bake uncovered at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes, or until bubbly and the bacon (if using) is cooked through.
- **Smoker:** Place the pan in the smoker at 225°F (110°C) and cook for approximately 3 hours, or until the beans are thickened and have absorbed the smoky flavor.
- Serve hot.
Tips
Using leftover smoked pulled pork or brisket instead of bacon adds fantastic flavor. Choose firm apples that hold their shape during baking.
